2010-2011 Season

Back to History Page

After spending a year in FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition), we began competing in VEX in 2010.  We went to three tournaments this season, playing the game "Round Up". (Here is a video that explains the game.)

Here are some pictures from this season

Here are two videos one of our team members made.  The first one summarizes our season, and the second one summarizes our trip to the world championships in Florida.

At our first tournament, in Tracy, California, we seeded seventh out of 25 teams, but our alliance was knocked out in the quarterfinals. Hungry for a victory, we went to the tournament in San Ramon, California. After going undefeated in the qualification rounds, we captained the third seeded alliance to a tournament victory over 29 other teams! At our third competition, in San Jose, California, we went undefeated in the qualification rounds again. We seeded third and captained our alliance, but we lost in the final match. However, we won the tournament's "Excellence" award over 50 other teams. This is the most prestigious award given out at the tournament. Here is the official description of the award:

"This is the highest award presented in the VEX Robotics Competition. The recipient of this award is a team that exemplifies overall excellence in building a well-rounded VEX program. This team excels in many areas and is a shining example of dedication, devotion, hard work, and team work. A strong contender in numerous award categories, this team deserves to be recognized for their accomplishments building a robot, and in building a team committed to quality in everything they do."

We attended the world championships in Florida (April 14th-16th) after receiving three invitations.  The world championship was a great success for our team!  We placed sixth in the world in the programming skills challenge when we scored 35 points.  Our record in the elimination matches was 7 wins, 2 losses, and we seeded tenth out of 104 teams in our Math division.  We allied with teams 1530 from Indiana and 2213A from Puerto Rico, and made it to the semi-finals in our division.  We went on to win the divisional Excellence award, which we are thrilled about!  This means that the judges ranked us as the overall top team in our division.

Out of the 3,600 VEX teams in the world, only four can claim that they are 2011 divisional Excellence award winners!
